This magnificent titanosaur roamed Spain during the Late Cretaceous, over 70 million years ago. Being my first sauropod reconstruction, I wanted to move away from the "gray/dull" trope and explore a more vibrant, speculative color palette.
TECHNICAL BREAKDOWN:
🌿 INTEGRATION: A major part of this project was the challenge of seamless 3D integration into a high-resolution photographic backplate. I focused heavily on matching shadow density, grain, and atmospheric perspective.
🦕 TEXTURING: Scales and skin folds were authored in Substance 3D Painter. The goal was to maintain the massive scale of the animal through micro-surface breakup and subtle displacement details.
📸 LOOKDEV & LIGHTING: Rendered in Arnold for Maya. I used a custom HDR setup matched to the original location’s data to ensure the PBR materials reacted correctly to the environment’s light bounce.
It was a challenging but rewarding experience bringing this titan back to life.
